Before his retirement in October 1996, Russell J. Cheetham was Vice
President of the World Bank responsible for operations in the Asia
Pacific Region. He was based in Washington, D.C.
His career with the World Bank spanned more than 25 years, mainly
in operations in East Asia and the Pacific, South Asia, and the
former Soviet Union. He has traveled extensively throughout these
areas and has well-established relations with political and business
leaders in these regions. He has lived in Papua New Guinea, the
Philippines, Indonesia and Moscow. His work at the World Bank included
advising governments and business in these regions on a wide range
of policy matters, including in particular, those related to the
activities of private business and investors. He has extensive experience
in the design, preparation, financing and implementation of many
different kinds of projects in these regions, and in the management
of risks associated with such investments.
Dr. Cheetham provides a range of services to businesses and governments
in the Asia-Pacific region and the former Soviet Union. His clients
include large corporations in Asia, the United States and Europe
active in manufacturing, mining, infrastructure, financial services,
airline operations, and consultant and management services.
Dr. Cheetham speaks regularly to professional and business groups
in the United States, Asia and Europe on economic and political
trends in Asia.

Education:
An Australian national, Russell Cheetham's educational background
includes a B.Sc. in Agricultural Science from Sydney University,
Australia. After coming to the United States as a Fulbright Fellow
in 1966, he obtained an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University
of Wisconsin. |
